Abstract

Anxiety disorders are an increasingly common psychiatric disorder. The most common subtypes are generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder (PD), and social phobia(SP). This study aimed to investigate the relationship between anxiety disorders and complete blood count (CBC) and calculated inflammation ratios. 85 patients (GAD = 34, PD = 34, SP = 17) and 50 healthy controls admitted to the psychiatry outpatient clinic of a tertiary care hospital were included in the study. The relationship between anxiety and subtypes, gender, age group and CBC were evaluated. In our study, while a significant lower level was observed in hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, and MCH values in the patient group (p < 0.05), no significant difference was found in other parameters (p > 0.05). This lower level was observed to may associated with GAD and female gender. No significant differences in inflammation ratios (NLR, MLR, PLR and others) were found between the patient and control groups. We believe that CBC in patients with anxiety disorders should be examined in detail and studies with larger populations should be conducted. These findings highlight the potential value of routine hemogram analysis in psychiatric evaluations and underscore the need for further multidisciplinary studies to explore underlying pathophysiological mechanisms.
